Manchester United came out on top in a pulsating encounter at White Hart Lane as they overcame Tottenham 3-1. Spurs have been in irresistible form during the early part of the season and it took less than 60 seconds for the prolific Jermain Defoe to break the deadlock with an overhead kick. Reports claiming that Carlos Tevez's move to Manchester City was actually a British record have been denied. It was originally thought that Tevez cost around £25million, with the fee going to a third party which owned him. Reports have now claimed that Tevez will actually cost £45million


Benitez learns lessons - Anfield boss praises hat-trick hero Benayoun
