Gogol Bordello (5/5)
Now this was a band I only know through hearsay; ”awesome live act”, ”you have to check out Gogol Bordello”, ”you won’t regret it, I promise” and so on. I listened to a couple of songs online before I went to Peace & Love and thought it was ok, but nothing more.
But after seeing this crazy band perform, I now understand what my friends were talking about… 22 seconds after they start playing I feel my right leg start moving…10 seconds later my arms start swing back and forth, and only moments later my ass is shaking like crazy! I look around and see everyone is doing just the same thing, ’cause it’s physically impossible to stand still when Gogol Bordello starts playing.
They have branded their musical style ”gypsy punk” and singer/guitar player Eugene Hütz surely reminds me of a travelling gypsy with the guitar on his back, leading his troops through the streets of middle Europe. Although they are New York-based you can easily be fooled by their beautiful, very cultural appearance and when the lovely two dancing ladies comes on stage the whole crowd is just jumping around like crazy.
The songs could easily go on forever and no one would stop dancing…the atmosphere around this gig is beautiful with just laughing faces everywhere, so when Gogol Bordello finally leaves the stage there’s an exhausted but very, very happy crowd leaving for the next adventure on this Peace & Love festival…
