Papa Roach - Bandit Rock Stage (3/5)
When Papa Roach had their breakthrough, we wrote early 2000 and nu metal was the big thing. Together with Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, the Roaches were the biggest hype of that era. The had a mega seller with their debut Infest, but after a couple of years, the nu metal scene was more or less dead with only Linkin Park as the survivors.
But Papa Roach has kept going through out the years and slowly their popularity has started grow again. Today, the band has left a lot of their nu metal influences and are today more or less just a hard rock / metal band. The band drew a pretty big crowd to their gig and it was easy to see that they had quite a lot of fans at the festival. They opened up with their 2004 hit single, ”Getting Away With Murder” and the crowd instantly went ape. This went on throughout the whole gig.
It was really funny to watch the transformation lead singer Jacoby Shaddix went through as soon as they played their older, nu metal style songs. The guy went all angry, black rapper on us just to change back to hard rock singer when the newer ones were played. They finished the set with their first mega hit ”Last Resort” and the place exploded. Not being a fan, I had no expectations what so ever, but I must admit, they made quite an impression on me.
