Opeth - Bandit Radio Rock Stage (5/5)
I have seen Opeth on several occasions now and they never fail me. Normally their kind of music, progressive death metal mixed with Pink Floydish melodies, keeping both melodic growl with clean singing, isn’t really what I look for at a festival. I remember Dream Theater, a band I really, really like, bore the crap out of me at Sweden Rock a few years ago. I also remember Opeth totally knocking me out at the same festival last year. And so they did this evening as well!

The sound at the Bandit Stage was good, but way too loud throughout the whole festival, but some sound engineer from the Opeth camp really did something about that and the sound was almost perfect. I really don’t know how they do it, but even though the band doesn’t play that many the songs, the songs are between 6 – 12 minutes long, it never gets boring and they keep things entertaining from beginning to end.
Added to the fact is that they don’t really move around that much on stage either. But Opeth are pure quality in whatever they do, I’m still waiting to hear one song from them that you can call bad, and just to listen to the guys play is pure pleasure. Besides, lead singer and guitar player Mikael Åkerfeldt is a real comedian, his stage rap always brings out laughter from the audience. Not very metal, but oh so relieving.
Next for the band is a new CD and then hopefully a new tour. Real soon, I hope. Can’t wait to see them again.
