Friday 26th June
Cult of Luna (4/5)
Since I had to run like a maniac from the previous gig I unfortunately missed the beginning of the first song that Cult Of Luna played this evening. But since these giuys from the north of Sweden hardly have The Ramones as an influence when it comes to length of songs, it wasn’t too bad anyway.
They build this gig on their latest effort, the magnificient album ”Eternal Kingdom”, based on the writings of a mentally ill man called Holger Nilsson, who apparently drowned his wife and then wrote his journals which Cult Of Luna now brought to life. Songs like ”Owlwood” and ”Ghost Trail” (with the mighty outro) is played with such brilliance and perfection combined with beauty that makes the audience standing there totally hypnotized.
If I were to describe Cult Of Luna’s music with one word it would actually be ”romantic” because somewhere inside there…behind all the loud guitars and growling voices there is something really beautiful that has captured my heart and made it bleed.

This band might not be the funniest band to see if you’re expecting a visual show. But if I wanted to see Slipknot I would have travelled elsewhere this weekend! Frontman Johannes Persson and his compadres lines up on the edge of the stage and makes sure that no one gets through. When the band delivers the amazing ”Finland” there is no doubt that they came out and gave one of this festival’s finest shows.
Actually the only thing that stops this from being a 100% show is that they only have one of their drummers with them this evening. When Cult Of Luna are at their best, with both drummers, they probably are Sweden’s best live act today.
