HISTORY

Often described as the world capital of Metal, Gothenburg couldn't be more fitting host for Metaltown. 15,000 metalheads rocking out on the city's old banana pier, plenty of food and drink and stalls as well as city sites and sounds just outside the festival gates, this is one not to be missed.

The Metaltown festival saw its first light in the summer of 2004 as one-day event with 5,000 visitors the opening year and 14 playing bands in total, including Alice Cooper, Turbonegro, Edguy and In Flames.

Since then Metaltown has been growing constantly, hosting bands like Tool, Motörhead, Cradle Of Filth, Slayer, Machine Head, Rammstein, Mastodon and many more.

In summer of 2008 Metaltown turned into a two-day festival with 30 bands in total, on two big stages and one in-door stage. Day two was completely sold out, with 15 000 people at the pier.

The 2008 festival included bands such as Cavalera Conspiracy, Monster Magnet, Bullet for My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, and In Flames.

The most recent festival, 26-27 June 2009, included bands such as Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Opeth, Napalm Death, and Disturbed.
