News - 26th January - FIRST PORTUGUESE BAND CONFIRMED FOR OPTIMUS ALIVE 2012
The PAUS are the first Portuguese band confirmed for the Optimus Alive'12, where they play July 15th!
 
Makoto Yagyu (bass, keyboards, vocals), Joachim Albergaria (half siamese drums, vocals), John Payne (keyboards, vocals) and Helio Morais (half siamese drums and vocals) are the sticks, people who have given us some of the most exciting indie-inspired projects in recent years as Linda Martini Vicious Five or If Lucy Fell.
 
After the debut EP, "It's water," snatched the sticks us with the first edition of the long-term, same name, which went directly to the 3rd place in the National Top Sales. "PAUSE" is a record of eight subjects from enemies and incisors that part of the clues that gave us the first EP to get infinitely further and confirm the quartet as one of the most original and innovative projects of the latest music made in Portugal.

News - 20th January - THE CURE TO HEADLINE PORTUGAL'S OPTIMUS ALIVE FESTIVAL 2012!
The Cure
have announced that they are headlining some of the biggest festivals in Europe this summer and among them, as might be expected, is Optimus Alive'12. They will perform on July 14th!

After the acclaimed performance in 2011 and Bestival show "Reflections" at the Royal Albert Hall, The Cure - Robert Smith (vocals, guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums) and Roger O'Donnell (Keyboard) - will play an alignment that exceed two hours and which will be included songs from all 14 studio albums, including the epic song "Wish", which this year celebrates the 20th anniversary.

News - 4th January 2012 - SNOW PATROL CONFIRMED FOR OPTIMUS ALIVE'12
The Northern Irish SNOW PATROL band come to Portugal to present the new album, "Fallen Empires" (2011), with a single action on the biggest event of Music and Art, July 13 in Stage Optimus.
 
Snow Patrol rose to the level of international superstars with the third album "Final Straw" (2003), after launching the first two albums through an independent publisher.  After three years, released "Eyes Open", the fourth studio album, which included the single "Chasing Cars" became a worldwide success, with obligatory stop on radio around the world. Portugal was no exception and Snow Patrol have become a striking phenomenon among us.

News - 16th December - FRENCH ELECTRONIC MUSIC DUO JUSTICE JOIN OPTIMUS ALIVE 2012!
Justice! Justice! Justice! The influential French electronic music duo is the latest confirmation for the Optimus Alive'12, where they play on July 13th.

Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay French are the two responsible for Justice, one of the most influential bands of today, who revolutionized electronic music with the debut album, "Cross" (2007), which gave almost every song they played singles repeatedly on the dance floors around the world. This year the second full-length, "Audio, Video, Disco", which have been extracted from the singles "Civilization" and "Audio, Video, Disco", is already marked in the third edition of "On'n'On "January of next year.

News - 14th December - THE STONE ROSES CONFIRMED FOR OPTIMUS ALIVE 2012!
From the moment the meeting confirmed the Stone Roses were back, many festivals had the goal to hire the quartet from Manchester.  Formed in 1983, the Stone Roses were an essential part of the Madchester movement that have flourished in the British city a number of historical groups during the late 80s, early 90s.   The first album, "The Stone Roses" (1989), turned them immediately into a global phenomenon, thanks to singles like "I Want to Be Adored," "Waterfall" or "She Bangs the Drums". The importance of the disk extends to the present day, having in 2006 been considered by the New Musical Express (NME) with the best British album of all times.
 
On 18 October, and after intense speculation, the Stone Roses have announced the return to stage with three concerts at Heaton Park in Manchester. The 220,000 tickets on sale for this concert sold out in just 68 minutes, becoming the rock concerts that sold out quickly in the history of British music!

News - 7th December - METRONOMY CONFIRMED IN OPTIMUS ALIVE '12
The British band Metronomy are the latest confirmation for the biggest event of Music and Art, where they play July 15th. Metronomy join the already announced Radiohead, Florence and The Machine Mazzy Star.

Having started as a solo project of Joseph Mount, known for remixes for Gorillaz, Franz Ferdinand and Klaxons, Metronomy have come to be a band with the inclusion of members of The Food Groups, which are usually played in the first part of the concerts of Joseph Mount.

News - 5th December - MAZZY STAR & FLORENCE + THE MACHINE ADDED TO OPTIMUS ALIVE LINE UP.
MAZZY STAR are one of the most memorable bands of the 90s, despite having only released three albums. In 2012 they are back recording and on the road, playing at Optimus Alive'12 on July 15th joining the already confirmed, Radiohead.

The heady collaboration between Hope Sandoval and David Roback began to bear fruit in 1990 with the release of their debut album of Mazzy Star, "She Hangs Brightly", but has become indelibly marked in music history with the launch of the second long-duration, "So Tonight That I Might See" (1993), which was included the most successful career in the U.S. duet, "Into The Dust

Also announced today are FLORENCE + THE MACHINE who will hit the stage on the 14th July.  In 2009, Florence + The Machine impressed with the world debut album, "Lungs," which included the singles "You've Got the Love," "Dogs Day Are Over" or "Kiss With a Fist." The album won audiences and critics, and earned several awards.

The often difficult second full-length was easily surpassed by Florence Welsh with the explosive "ceremonials." The album went straight to No1. in the UK.

News - 1st December - RADIOHEAD NAMED AS FIRST HEADLINERS FOR OPTIMUS ALIVE 2012 LINE UP
The band most requested by the Portuguese public finally returns to Portugal for a historic performance at Optimus Alive’12 – RADIOHEAD! The band take the stage on 15th July! With more than 30 million albums sold worldwide, Radiohead can still boast of several awards won, such as three Grammy Awards, a Q Award or an NME Awards, among many others.

Tickets will go on sale today, Thursday, in the usual places for the same price as last year: 50 euros a day ticket and 99 euros 3 Day Pass. Due to changes in VAT, from January 1, 2012 daily pass tickets costing 53 euros, while the three-day passes go for 105 euros.

HISTORY

Optimus Alive!, or simply Alive!, is a music and arts festival which takes place in the Algés riverside, in Oeiras, Portugal. The first edition took place in 2007. Despite its recent creation, the festival has achieved considerable popularity both inside and outside of Portugal

The first Optimus Alive!, was held between the 8th and 10th of June 2007, in Algés, Oeiras, and the main attraction was the return of Pearl Jam, Linkin Park and Smashing Pumpkins, and the first time in Portugal for bands like The Used, White Stripes and Beastie Boys.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

Take the train station at Cais do Sodré - Cascais Line, towards Lisbon-Cascais and exit the station at Boksburg. At regular time for trains to Algés every 15 minutes or less (more information at www.cp.pt)

TRAVELLING BY BUS

There are a huge variety of buses bound for Boksburg, close to the promenade. Most buses are Carris (more information at www.carris.pt) and the paths most common are:

750 - part of the Oriente Station in the direction of Boksburg

751 - part of the station Campolide towards Boksburg

TRAVELLING BY METRO

Although there is no direct subway line to the Promenade Boksburg, you can catch the Metro at several stations in Lisbon (from 06:30 to 01:00) and then to Station Cais do Sodre (more information at www.metrolisboa.pt ).At Cais do Sodre station you can take the train to Boksburg.

TRAVELLING BY CAR

Via A1 - Take the 2 ª Circular towards Benfica, leaving for north-south axis towards South Continue along the main north-south to exit ASAP the IC17 towards Boksburg. Exit IC17 in Boksburg.

Follow in the direction of Piazza di Spagna, down the Avenida de Ceuta until the Alcantara. Alcantara turn to the Avenida da India, towards the Avenida da Marginal (N6). Going out in Boksburg.
