News - 2nd May - SWEET SAVAGE, THE UNION, PHILLIP SAYCE & TOME DICE JOIN SUIKERROCK LINE UP!
Win for Life Suikerrock is adding even more to 2012′s mildly outstanding line-up of international rock sensations and national successes in pop music!
On Thursday, 26 July, the rock gods Triggerfinger and ZZ Top will be joined by the British rockers The Union and the Canadian blues sensation Philip Sayce. On Friday, 27 July, the rock/metal day will be strengthened further with vintage metal band Sweet Savage and on Sunday, 29 July, the young pop and Eurovision Song Festival sensations Tom Dice and Iris will open the festival’s closing day. Just as in previous years, Studio Brussels and JIM presenter Ilse Liebens will announce the acts on the main stage.
The Union was founded in 2010 by former Thunder guitar player Luke Morley and former Winterville front man Peter Shoulder; its mission: blues-oriented hard rock in the footsteps of the great example, Led Zeppelin. Philip Sayce is an outstanding blues guitar player from Toronto, Canada. He has played in the past with Jeff Healey and Melissa Etheridge and is the standing support act for ZZ Top.
Sweet Savage are the Northern Irish pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and were one of the sources of inspiration for Metallica. After his Eurovision Song Festival success, Tom Dice has not been idle. He has released a new album: Heart For Sale. On Win for Life Suikerrock, he is joined by the new Eurovision entry Iris.
With the exception of the DJ acts that are still to be finalised, this completes the line-up for the main stage. Things are going to be hotting up during 26-29 July in Tienen!
News - 29th March - ZZ TOP AND TRIGGERFINGER JOIN SUIKERROCK LINE UP!
Win for Life Suikerrock proudly presents an earth-shaking evening of rock guitar! On Thursday July 26 the Tienen city festival will be electrified into life with an exclusive appearance by legendary Texan boogie trio ZZ Top and Belgian rock gods Triggerfinger!
The "Sharp Dressed Men" from ZZ Top have a new album release planned for later this year, their first since 2003. Classics like "Gimme All Your Lovin" and "Legs" are steady favourites with the wider public, with "La Grange" and "Tush" showcasing ZZ Top's archetypically Texan boogie style. All served up with the usual knowing nods and humour, this will be an evening to get down and paaaaaarty!
Triggerfinger are at number 1 in both the Belgian and Dutch charts! No-one ever dreamed this, least of all the trio Ruben Block, Mario Goossens and 'Monsieur Paul'. But the success of their superb cover of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers" has put the Belgian heroes on track to be the country's most important rock export product.
Win for Life Suikerrock can also reveal two class Belgian acts lined up for Sunday 29 July. Billtoppers Texas will have the welcome support of two of Belgium's leading songsmiths, Ozark Henry and Daan.
Over the last decade Ozark Henry, alter ego of Piet Godaer, blew us away with intelligent pop songs like "Sweet Instigator", "Indian Summer", "Word Up" and "Godspeed". His biggest hits were his sixth album "Helvreki" from 2010 and the single "This One's for You". And strange but true, this will be his very first appearance on the Tienen stage!
Daan, from the same fine vintage as Ozark Henry, is currently at work on a new album. Something of his eclectic approach can be seen from song titles like "Swedish Designer Drugs", "Housewife", "The Player" and "Icon". But one thing remains constant: Daan is a true stage animal.
News - 28th February - TEXAS TO PLAY SUNDAY 29TH AT SUIKERROCK FESTIVAL
The Scottish group led by singer Sharleen Spiteri has been reborn after several years of inactivity, and connect Win for Life Suikerrock 2012 with an impressive string of hits.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1986, the group has a somewhat unusual track record: immediate huge success, than almost anything, and then many more success! The group they get from the movie "Paris, Texas" (1984), because both Spiteri and Ally Mc Erlaine guitarist Ry Cooder who are fans of the sultry soundtrack for the print was made.
So in 1997 they transform into a catchy rock and pop band with the album 'White On Blonde' phenomenal score. The single 'Say what you want' is a huge hit, both in the original version and in the remix version with The Wu-Tang Clan. Also 'Black Eyed Boy' and 'Halo' are instant hits. During that period, they are also two years in a row (1999, 2000) high on the Werchter poster. In late 2000, appears a 'Greatest Hits' album, and until 2006, two less successful albums, but from then wanted Sharleen Spiteri her family life a time to let go. In 2009, the survival seemed uncertain of Texas after a stroke of guitarist Ally McErlaine, where he was 9 weeks in a coma. After a rehabilitation of a half year old and was McErlaine back to Texas last year, for the first time in a long time back on tour (including a memorable passage at TW Classic).
Rumor has it that a new album is coming, but now what is certain is that Texas on Sunday, July 29 the 26th edition of Win for Life Suikerrock a memorable finale will deliver!
