NEWS - PUKKELPOP SELLS OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!

Pukkelpop, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this summer, has sold out!

Organisers released the following statement :

“The inevitable has happened! Pukkelpop has sold out for the first time in the festival’s history. After 3-day tickets sold out last Thursday, day tickets have been flying out the door at an incredible rate. We are extremely pleased that so many people want to join Pukkelpop’s 25th anniversary celebration. On 19, 20 and 21 August we expect 62,500 visitors each day, who will be able to enjoy awesome headliners, exhilarating dance acts and DJs, and, as you have come to expect from Pukkelpop, the hottest up and coming bands. All this combined with the typical Pukkelpop atmosphere including special attractions, comedy and much, much more is guaranteed to fill you with anticipation!??"

No more tickets will be sold at the festival ticket offices. Do not buy tickets from touts, as you have no guarantee that these are official Pukkelpop tickets. If you have purchased an unofficial ticket, you might be refused admission to the festival site.”

NEWS - 21st June
Lots of cooperation projects can be discovered on the list of new names. Broken Bells, the wonderful, brand-new project of Shins frontman James Mercer and Gnarls Barkley chief, Danger Mouse, will be in Belgium for the first time. A new Belgian act to look forward to is Radical Slave, the no wave project of Mauro Pawlowski, Dirk ‘Buscemi’ Swartenbroekx and Remo Perotti. Another great new act is Broken Glass Heroes, the group in which Pascal Deweze and Tim Vanhamel demonstrate their love for sixties and seventies pop. It will be their big premiere at Pukkelpop.

Pukkelpop continues to present young talent. Tame Impala, marvellously psychedelic, and I Blame Coco, the electro-pop project of Sting’s daughter will make their first appearance at the festival. Jack Parow will import mad hip-hop from vuvuzela country South Africa. From the States we have the terrific indie rattle rock of Harlem and the nice New Yorkers of We Are Scientists. The promising UK bands Villagers, Airship, Wallis Bird and Twin Atlantic will perform before a Belgian audience for the first time.
The fantastic Selah Sue has listed Pukkelpop among the small number of festivals at which she’ll play this summer, which pleases us very much. Later that day she will act as MC for the AKS dubsteppers. Our Hasselt friends Mint will present their new record and Kill Frenzy will start up the Boiler on Saturday. Partyharders feat. Highbloo will do likewise on Friday. The Sunpower punkers will kick off The Shelter.

Please note the following changes. The shows of Skindred and The Go Find have been moved to Thursday 19 August.

HISTORY

Pukkelpop is an annual music festival which currently takes place in Kiewit, Belgium, located near the city of Hasselt. It is one of the largest music festivals in the country, with an attendance of approximately 180,000 in 2009.

The festival began in 1985 and has expanded steadily over the course of its inception. Originally a one-day event, the festival has since grown to three days and features over 200 acts. It was founded and still organized by the Humanistic Youth of Leopoldsburg, which is led by politician Chokri Mahassine.

WHERE IS PUKKELPOP FESTIVAL?


The Pukkelpop festival site is situated along Kempische Steenweg, Kiewit Hasselt - Belgium. Festivalgoers can reach Pukkelpop via the E313 motorway or use public transport to Hasselt or Kiewit. Hasselt is situated about 20 km away from Diest, 60 km away from Eindhoven, 30 km away from Maastricht, 50 km away from Liège, 70 km away from Antwerp and 70 km away from Brussels.
