Sweden Rock Festival

Sweden Rock Festival

Sweden Rock Festival is an annual rock / metal festival held in Sweden since June 6, 1992.

While having a clear rock / metal focus, the festival is noted for its diversity across these genres, having featured southern rock bands such as Molly Hatchet to death metal legends like Obituary.

The first festival was held in Olofström, with 9 relatively unknown bands and it only lasted one day. The next 5 years, the festival was held in Karlshamn. Since 1998 the festival has been held in Norje, outside Sölvesborg. When the festival first began in 1992, it featured nine relatively unknown bands and it only lasted one day. The next year the festival was expanded to two days and more bands were added to the line-up. From 1993 to 2002 the festival would last two days; over those years it would also begin to feature bigger name acts.

Guns N Roses at Sweden Rock 2010
Guns N Roses at Sweden Rock 2010
First of all, this isn’t Gun N Roses. This Axl Rose’s Solo ensamble or something. Second, there is no rating here because I didn’t stick around to see the show. After waiting for 20 minutes for Mr I-go-on-stage-when-ever-I-damn-well-please!
Cinderella at Sweden Rock 2010
Cinderella at Sweden Rock 2010
Cinderella were, just like Y&T in 2003 and Tesla in 2008, a band that I have always loved but never got to see, before their concerts at SRF. And just like with them, my expectations were high because of the bands talent and musical strength.
Gary Moore at Sweden Rock 2010
Gary Moore at Sweden Rock 2010
When we first got the reports that Gary Moore had abandoned his boring blues journey to start playing the hard rock he used to do so well, it sounded almost that we, the fans had won the Gary Moore lottery.
Opeth at Sweden Rock 2010
Opeth at Sweden Rock 2010
First of all, I’m a big Opeth fan so I’m not sure about my objectivity here. I have also seen them live a couple of times before and they are an amazing live act.
W.A.S.P at Sweden Rock 2010
W.A.S.P at Sweden Rock 2010
The last time I saw WASP was back in 1999 and they made a very good gig. In later years I’ve lost interest a bit, much due to the pretty weak albums they’ve put out.
Aerosmith at Sweden Rock 2010
Aerosmith at Sweden Rock 2010
When Aerosmith played SRF the last time we wrote 2007 and I was expecting a lot. Having seen them on several occasions, I knew that they are a killer liveband. And after the four or five first songs I thought they would play the best gig in SRF’s history.

Steel Panther at Sweden Rock 2010
Steel Panther at Sweden Rock 2010
Humour! If you don’t have any of that, then there’s no point giving these guys a shot. And you need that humour to be very below the belt
Rick Springfield at Sweden Rock 2010
Rick Springfield at Sweden Rock 2010
Even though I have always liked Rick Springfield’s music, though not as a huge fan, I never actually saw him as a rocker, but more of a pop artist
Big Elf at Sweden Rock 2010
Big Elf at Sweden Rock 2010
Bigelf has been around since the early 90’s, but it’s not before in recent years that they have started to get some recognition
Pretty Maids at Sweden Rock 2010
Pretty Maids at Sweden Rock 2010
Pretty Maids was called in in a hurry. Which made up for the loss of RATT big time for me!
Treat at Sweden Rock 2010
Treat at Sweden Rock 2010
In a day and age when every melodic hard rock band and their mother decides to reunite, some reunions are called for and some should just have been left alone.
